I am a voter in your district. I wanted to touch base and ask you to stand up for the right to trial by jury this legislative session and say no to government-mandated caps on damages. The best protection from a dangerous corporate nursing home, a reckless driver, a negligent hospital, or a corrupt employer is our right to hold them accountable in a court of law. The right to trial by a citizen jury, free from government-mandated limits, is a constitutional right protected by the 7th Amendment. House File 592 is a direct violation of that. Any effort to force a one-size-fits-all, government-mandated dollar value on human life is a detriment to that right. Your constituents are counting on you to protect that right. Juries should decide the outcome of court cases, not lobbyists or politicians. Thank you.
